Indonesia 500 Rupiah 1960 (ND 1964) — Soekarno Banknote, Bank Indonesia

A better-grade example of the classic 500 Rupiah note that every collector of Indonesian vintage paper money ends up wanting eventually. Soekarno, the country's first president, is shown in full military dress with his peci cap, and the reverse carries a beautifully engraved pair of wayang-style figures in ornate crowns and headdresses — a genuine piece of vintage decor with real historical weight.

This example grades at Choice Extremely Fine, with strong original color and sharp detail across both the portrait and the reverse engraving. Population is genuinely tight at this grade — PMG has only certified 9 copies at 45, with 122 in higher grades, so this sits right at the point where the note starts getting noticeably harder to find.

A historically significant note in above-average condition, with a low population at this grade — a strong pickup for anyone building a serious Indonesian collection, and a meaningful gift for dad, gift for him, or any gift for collector who'd appreciate real paper money history over another generic gift.
