One of the most collected pre-war designs from the Netherlands Indies, the "Wayang" 5 Gulden features a striking portrait of a Javanese man in traditional wayang orang headdress. An intricately engraved crown, dangling earrings, and layered necklace rendered in fine detail that showcases classic Dutch banknote artistry at its best.
Three genuine options are available from a different year and signature variety:
Serial Number: FR09218 - Dated 1 August 1939, Signature: Smith
Condition: Very Fine (VF)
A nicely preserved example with honest fold marks and light creasing from normal circulation, plus minor foxing/staining consistent with age. The only real flaw is slight roughness along the left and bottom margin/edge on the front of the note.
Serial Number: UM 02759 - Dated 4 October 1937, Signature: Waveren
Condition: Fine+ to VF-
Genuine circulated note with fold marks and light creasing, plus minor age-related foxing/staining. In the interest of transparency: there's a slight trim to the top margin done to improve presentation, and two small pinholes that may not be visible in the photos.
Serial Number: XR 02810 - Dated 7 March 1936, Signature: Praasterink
Condition: Fine to Fine+
Genuine circulated note with fold marks and light creasing, plus minor age-related foxing/staining. In the interest of transparency: there's one small hole near the center of the note, and slight roughness along the top margin/edge.
